you know that today, September 24th, is the 30th
anniversary of the premiere of television’s “Love Boat” and the 43rd
anniversary of “The Munsters”?
can think of many fond memories of watching Munsters reruns in my bedroom
after school. Their kooky antics brought a smile to my face and helped me
to realize that families come in many shapes and sizes. Herman was my
favorite character, always kind to others while smiling from his towering
7 foot presence. Nothing discouraged Herman and he was blissfully unaware
of people’s fear or treatment of him. What a great role model.
And, since I was only 14 years old when "The Love Boat" premiered, most of
the show was over my head. Not so much that I couldn’t develop a crush on
ladies man “Doc” or to fantasize about being cruise director Julie McCoy
and hanging out with loveable Gopher. Many years later when I took my
first cruise I couldn’t help but compare it to The Pacific Princess and
feeling a little disappointed that our cruise director was a man and not
nearly as pretty as Julie McCoy.
is amazing to think how much television has, and does, affect our
culture. It’s also amazing how primitive some of the television shows
from the past seem when compared to what is on today’s prime time roster.
Actually, I really don’t watch television anymore, maybe because no one
can fill the shoes of Gilligan or Greg Brady. No that’s not the truth.
The truth is that I cannot stand the violence on television today. It’s
too much for me. I’d rather read a book. But that doesn’t mean that I
can’t reminisce about shows I watched years ago when my world seemed
simpler and a good giggle was just a “laugh track” away.
What were your favorite television shows when you were a kid? Who was
your favorite character and why? Could your favorite character (or show)
be holding a key to your present happiness or to something that you
abandoned in your pursuit of success?
Quote of the Week:
lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what
lies within us."
- Oliver Wendell Holmes
What potential lies dormant within you?
What can you do this week to tap into that potential and give it expression?
"As I go inside myself, I see and sense the
potential that lies within me. I willingly and courageously allow myself to
express my power, and it feels great!"
